A 2004 study conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) showed 58% of companies outsource human resource functions. Today, that number is closer to 85% and the HR outsourcing industry has grown to $165 billion annually. This is the result of several factors--mostly a increase in the complexity of employment law and the desire for companies to hand off compliance concerns to human resource experts so they can focus solely on the core of their business.
